Some more positives to not gambling became apparent to my husband over the weekend. We sent away for his credit report to see how his ‘bad credit rating’ was going. A few years ago we received the same document and it made for pretty sad reading. He had borrowed so much money to fund his habit and when he wasn’t doing that he was purchasing things like furniture etc on credit because he didn’t have the money to actually pay for it. It’s amazing how far the problems associated with gambling stretch.

We received the latest copy of his credit report and he was amazed to see there was nothing on it. He has a clean slate. Our years of working hard and working together have finally, finally started to pay off. The look on his face to see he achieved something positive was just the best thing. After years of doing the wrong thing or following the wrong path and making bad choices, he could at last see what happens when you stop, work hard and make good decisions. He looked at me and said “we can actually now be considered for a home loan”. We’re still not in a position to go and get a home loan just yet (young family, no savings etc) but he now knew it wouldn’t be a flat out NO from the bank when the time comes to ask.

My point to all this is that it may take a little while before you see any positives but I can assure you that when you work together there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a very gradual thing. You take a day at a time, you work together and they put their focus on the future and the simple fact that without gambling they actually do have one! Each day gets a little easier and every now and then something pops up to show you it’s working.

You need to believe that things can get better. If we don’t, how can they?

“Self-confidence and a belief in yourself is a must. To instil confidence in others, you first must have confidence in yourself.” (Byron & Catherine Pulsifer)
